An art exhibition to commemorate the 120th anniversary of Hearn’s arrival in Japan and the 160th anniversary of his birth, opened on Sunday, 10 October 2010 in Matsue, Shimane Prefecture.  The exhibition The Open Mind of Lafcadio Hearn:  Homage to Lafcadio Hearn, features work by artists from Japan, Greece and Ireland inspired by Hearn. Events marking this anniversary are being organised around Japan throughout the year.
